Palm Sunday Tornados – 65

My Dad was the Pastor of the Nazarene Church at the time. Like EVERY Sunday night we were sitting in Church when they hit. Of course, we didn’t KNOW that was what was happening…

There we were in the middle of a Church Service when POP! All the power went out. There might have been some thunder too because I remember that some woman screamed. There in the darkness of that moment came my father’s voice urging everyone to remain calm. He said he didn’t know what was going on outside, but that we were in the best possible place to be, in God’s House. He started singing a hymn and one by one people joined in. By the time that hymn was over some people had checked outside and quickly learned tornados were spawning all over the place so we calmly dismissed the service so people could tend to their homes. Flashlights were pulled from people’s cars to provide light for everyone…

It wasn’t until the following day that we learned how lucky we had been. TWO tornados had spawned west of town and actually hit the extreme outskirts of town. But then they SPLIT, going AROUND North Manchester only to rejoin on the other side.

You can say all you want about freaky weather and weird circumstances. THIS 11 year old heard MY FATHER’S voice in the darkness call on the Hand of God to protect us, and damned if those tornados didn’t just go around us! Oh yeah buddy, MY Dad is a personal friend of GOD!
